Busulfex - convention booth game

Busulfex offered a challenge to create an eye-catching game to use at their booth during multiple conventions. I designed a simple yet graphically powerful game that used AR (augmented reality) technology. I was able to leverage the game's AR target by placing it on a printed mailer that was sent out in a door drop. The flyer doubled as an AR target for the teaser website that allowed the visitor to controll the bird. In addition to the game, website and flyer interaction, the complete strategy included web banners, posters and printed ads.

Pontiac - Motorati Island passport

Pontiac felt they needed something to tie their Second Life presence of Motorati Island to their physical promotion. I offered a passport that would allow them to show people a taste of their varied and uniquie offereings, including their crossover with Maxim's Hot 100 site, without having to be online. They were thrilled with the professional yet inviting booklet and gave thousands to visitors at their booths and events.

Brian Cain - SxSW panel

Brian wanted promotional materials for a SxSW Interactive panel. We concepted and I created guerilla-marketing materials including five promotional buttons, flyer giveaways, website identity and a rebus cypher gateway puzzle for the website. All materials were interwoven with elements for, and integral to panel ARG (alternate reality game). Two protesters handed out the materials to SxSW interactive attendees, so the material had to be eye catching, subversive looking and humorous. Their acts, supported by the materials, were caught by news channels and became the talk of the convention.

CSM - branding, design and promotion

I created and updated the brand identity for the nationally distributed CSM from the bottom up, including the logo, layout, design, promotional materials, business cards, stationary, website and advertisement.

Space150 - v25 re-branding

Space150 crowdsorced their v25 campaign. I created a cool and open look for their materials and website, focusing on the strong graphic star element and an unusual type treatment. I mocked up this image, in photoshop and illustrator alone, with the idea that all material would be eco-friendly and have AR (augmented reality) components. Particularly the business cards would show a three dimentional image of the person, and the "Space Coaster" would do random AR things while placed on their desk.

LyonHeart launch branding

LyonHeart wanted a strong gorilla marketing feel to their campaign. I worked with a creative team to bring the branding to life on all materials from advertisements to business letterhead to outdoor advertisement to the website. The campaign won the RXclub Award of Excellence and I was named graphic designer.

Jenn Mann - professonal page

Jenn wanted a site that allowed her to show off her case studies, had her contact information and would offer visitors unique insight into her and her work. After working with her through various incarnations, this visdev-like pathway evolved, giving both an organic and technical feel.

CellCept - patient and professional site

Client requested a website that was easy to navigate and friendly, yet kept a professional feel. Incorporating FDA standards, metrics from previous client site and ease of use, this crisp clean design opened up.

Busulfex - AR teaser page for convention

As part of a larger multi-channel campaign (whole campaign in Multi-channel Campaigns portfolio), I created this landing page to entice people to visit their booth at a conference. The focus of the page is on the AR experience, using the client's pre-existing brand.

Pontiac - Motorati Island crossover with Maxim's Hot 100

Pontiac wanted a gateway to their Second Life location that would live on the Maxim's Hot 100 site. Both companies' branding was melded into a seamles micro site.

Water Mage - Ice

This poster taps into the underlying element of water with a touch of ice, spawned by the will of magical creation. It is part of a ongoing series of elemental artwork.
medium: digital created in Photoshop and Illustrator
size: 35.5" x 45"

Water Mage - Fire

This poster taps into the underlying element of water with a lick of fire, spawned by the will of magical creation. The image was crafted solely in photoshop and illustrator. It is part of a ongoing series. Please contact me at MichaelAMorel@gmail.com for information about prints.

Spell Box

This shadow box contains multi-layered imagery of elemental spell casting, conjuring thoughts of mystery and the unknowable. The contents are aged and the glass broken to ellicit thoughts of the arcane and forgotten.
medium: silver, gold, paper, cardboard, glass, watercolors
size: 9.5" x 10.75" x 3.25" (including frame)

Temple Stone 1

Based partialy on Mayan and Grecian imagery and partially on my dreams, I created a series of mythical creatures that would be carved on a temple. This one is loosely based on Quetzalcoatl, the winged serpent. The large headress represents kinglyness, the wing arcs to the right and left represent quickness of thought and the spiral fangs represent power over life and death.
medium: acrylic on canvas
size: 36" x 36" (unframed)

Tikal in Paper

After a trip to see the beautiful ruins in Tikal, Guatemala, I created a stylistic paper cut of its iconic steep temples.
medium: paper
size: 8.5" x 5.5" x 5.5" (standing open)

El Castillo in Paper

This paper cut was inspired by visiting the phenomenal El Castillo temple at Chichen Itza, Mexico.
medium: paper
size: 8.5" x 5.5" x 5.5" (standing open)

Monkey Love Box

While exploring box shapes with self-closures, I drempt up this hexagonal ribbon box. I gave the first prototype to my lovely wife, adorned with romantic imagery.
medium: inkjet print on paper
size: 9" x 9.5" x 3.5" (closed)

Busulfex AR game

I designed all the visual elements to this game, which was used at multiple conventions. It is opperated through an augmented reality paddle that allowed the game to follow the players movement, making it wireless. The game was part of a larger multi-channel campaign. (Full information in Multi-channel Campaigns portfolio.)

The Calendar

This game was concepted after a dream I had about the Mayan Calendar where graphic representations of days and years connected and disappeared. I wanted to make the game relevant to the year 2012 and still be fun.

Glassine charts

I created a series of glassine charts to give the client a hyper stylized and futuristic feel.

Graphic charts

The client wanted grphic charts that were easy to read yet highlighted multiple branding colors.

Cut & Paste 2011 entry

Cut & Paste is a live design competition with DJs and a club atmosphere. The design has to follow the given theme and be made in 15 minutes or less. The theme of the 2011 qualifiers was "Mythical". My entry was this Quetzacoatl (winged serpent) created in illustrator.
